How to Farm Coffer Key Shards in Midnight Season 1 – Complete Farming Guide

Author's Note: This guide is based on extensive alpha and beta testing exploration of all known sources for Coffer Key Shards in Midnight. These shards are the currency for unlocking high-value rewards in Bountiful Delves (and similar endgame coffers).

Key Mechanics

  • Rewards come as Coffer Key Shards (not full keys).

  • Conversion: 100 Shards = 1 full Coffer Key.

  • Auto-Conversion: Shards turn into keys automatically upon entering a Delve.

  • Weekly Cap: 600 Shards total per week → maximum 6 Coffer Keys per reset.

  • Goal: Hit the cap efficiently every week for consistent high-end loot.

Prioritize high-yield sources first, then fill with farmables.

All Sources of Coffer Key Shards

Pinnacle Caches (Highest Yield – Outdoor/Event Activities)

These are the cornerstone of weekly farming. Each cache grants a massive 100 Shards (a full key's worth).

There are 7 Pinnacle Caches in Midnight Season 1:

  • Runestones Event Pinnacle Cache

  • Abundance Pinnacle Cache

  • Weekly Aiding Pinnacle Cache

  • Stormarion Event Pinnacle Cache

  • Harandar Lore Pinnacle Cache

  • Special Assignment Pinnacle Cache

  • Special Assignment Pinnacle Cache (second variant/instance)

Strategy Tip: Complete all 7 every reset if available — they can push you close to (or over) the 600 cap alone. These are time-gated to weekly outdoor/world events and quests.

Weekly Quests

Reliable, low-effort sources for steady shards.

  • Soiree Weekly Quests (3 quests total): 30 Shards each → 90 Shards from the full set.

  • Certain World Quests: 25 Shards each (rotate; check daily/weekly for shard rewards).

Strategy Tip: Always knock these out early in the week — quick dailies/weeklies add up fast.

Farmable / Repeatable Sources

Use these to top off after hitting pinnacles and weeklies (no cap beyond the weekly 600 total).

  • Random Treasures (scattered in zones): 11–14 Shards each.

  • Rares (world/elites): 50 Shards each.

  • Abundance (with Shard of Dundun completion): ~13 Shards per run.

Strategy Tip: Treasure hunting and rare farming are great for casual play or when waiting on group activities. Rares respawn, so they're semi-infinite if you're under cap.

Prey Hunts (Preyseeker Content – High Shard + Gear Rewards)

Prey hunts scale by difficulty (Normal → Hardmode → Nightmare) and reward consistent 75 Shards per chest, plus gear, Voidlight Marl, Dawncrests, gold, and profession mats.

Difficulty First Two Completions Chest Shards Other Rewards
Normal Preyseeker’s Adventurers Chest 75 Adventurer Gear, Voidlight Marl, 10 Adventurer Dawncrests
(Last two) 75 10 Adventurer Dawncrests, gold + prof mats bag
Hardmode Preyseeker’s Veteran Chest 75 Veteran Gear, Voidlight Marl, 10 Veteran Dawncrests
(Last two) 75 10 Veteran Dawncrests, gold + prof mats bag
Nightmare Preyseeker’s Champion Chest 75 Champion Gear, Voidlight Marl, 10 Champion Dawncrests
(Last two) 75 5 Hero Dawncrests, gold + prof mats bag

Strategy Tip: Push the highest difficulty you can clear reliably — 75 shards per chest makes Prey one of the best shard-per-activity sources, with excellent side rewards for gearing.

Recommended Weekly Farming Routine (To Hit ~600 Cap)

  1. Priority 1: Clear all 7 Pinnacle Caches (up to 700 potential shards, capped at 600).

  2. Priority 2: Complete Soiree weeklies (90 shards) + shard World Quests.

  3. Priority 3: Run Prey Hunts (focus higher modes for 75-shard chests and gear).

  4. Fillers: Farm rares (50 each), open treasures (11–14 each), and do Abundance activities (~13 each) if still short.

This routine maximizes efficiency while progressing other systems (gear, reputation, currency).

Midnight Season 1's shard system rewards consistent outdoor/event play — focus on pinnacles and Prey for the biggest returns. If post-launch hotfixes or patches change yields, re-test and adapt. Happy farming, and may your coffers overflow!
