Detailed Guide: The BEST 12.1 Fishing Guide (Coiled Isle – Rep Farm, Fish Farm, Decors, Crafting, Mounts, Pets & More)

Based on Moudi’s video. This covers every major section, unlock, farm, reward, and tip from the video.

Intro & Overview

Fishing plays a major role in Patch 12.1 on the new outdoor zone Coiled Isle. You get:

  • Normal pool fishing

  • Cursed fishing (outside pools)

  • Venom fishing

  • A full reputation faction (Captain Tokka’s Crew) with 5 ranks

  • Special fish for buffs, dailies, achievements, professions, and cosmetics

  • A unique fishing rod, mount, battle pet, toys, weapons, and housing décor

Progress through the main story to Chapter 3 to unlock the Captain Tokka side questline at Tokka’s Landing.

All Fishing Pools & Rewards (Coiled Isle)

Main pools and their primary fish:

  • Bubbling Barrel → Main: Sulfurous Sludgefish. Also: Dirty Dorkfish / Dirty Darter, Ulotik Snakehead, Toxic Thalpy / Toxic Tlhapi.

  • Willow Sea → Main: Polluted Puffer. Also: Dirty Dorkfish, Spotted Killifish, Toxic Thalpy.

  • Vicious Venom → Located inside the Vault of Aethel Tech (big mountain). Yields Many-Eyed Flounder.

  • Vile Venom → Many-Eyed Flounder.

  • Cursed / Vile Arteries → Main: Polluted Puffer. Also: Spotted Killifish (and similar).

These pools give the specific fish needed for turn-ins, crafting, and other systems.

Curse Surge Fishing

Curse Surges occur at 5 rotating locations on Coiled Isle. After a Surge ends:

  • More Cursed Artery pools appear.

  • Venom pools can also yield Twin-Headed Snipe (in addition to Many-Eyed Flounder).

This is part of what Blizzard calls “cursed fishing,” but the full system goes far beyond the temporary pools. (The creator has a separate video covering Surge mechanics in more detail.)

Captain Tokka & Reputation Faction

  • Location: Tokka’s Landing.

  • Unlock: After Chapter 3 of the main story → side questline starts.

  • Faction: Captain Tokka’s Crew (friendship/renown style). You start at Rank 2.

  • 5 ranks total. Each rank unlocks the next story quest + major fishing abilities and rewards.

  • Reputation sources: Story quests, daily quests, killing ghost Tortollan NPCs (50 rep each), side quests fished up, weekly world quest, etc.

Rank 2 Unlocks & Farm

Completing the Rank 2 questline unlocks:

  • Cursed Fishing — You can now catch fish outside of pools. These include cursed fish + some normal ones.

  • Uses for the fish: Buffs, daily turn-ins, a big fish collection achievement, and profession needs.

  • A Tortollan NPC you “capture/kill” starts haunting you as a ghost. It can spawn while fishing (pool or open water). Kill it for 50 reputation.

  • ~5 lore side quests that can be fished up (tied to Captain Tokka’s story).

  • Two daily quests on a small island in the middle:

    • One task/kill-style quest.

    • One fish turn-in: 13 of a specific fish (Dirty Dorkfish, Polluted Puffer, Toxic Thalpy, or Spotted Killifish).

Gold Farm Tip Many players will not want to fish the turn-in fish themselves. They buy the required 13 fish from the Auction House every day just to complete the daily for reputation (cosmetics are locked behind the ranks). This creates steady demand — sell your excess fish for gold.

Rank 3 Unlocks & Farm

Next quest takes you outside Atal’ai Ut’ahte / Atal’Utek into the venom water areas.

  • You kill another Tortollan (new ghost that can spawn while fishing for more 50-rep kills).

  • Unlocks Venom Fishing — You can now fish in the venom waters of Coiled Isle (and later inside vaults).

  • Best overall fishing type according to the video (after thousands of casts / tens of hours of testing). Highest chance for the procs you actually want:

    • Ghost Tortollans (rep)

    • Side quests

    • Thalassian Recipe in a Bottle (profession recipes when opened)

Venom fishing is excellent for both reputation progress and material farming.

Rank 4 Unlocks & Farm

Quest takes you inside Atal’gral / the vaults.

  • Unlocks fishing in the venom water inside the Vaults of Atal’Utek (still outside of pools for loot).

  • Unlocks a world quest (northeast on the map) involving a white water creature. Completing it gives 500 reputation per week (account-wide).

Rank 5 & Coiled Huntress Fishing Rod

At Rank 5 (Bloodsworn Crew) you can buy the Coiled Huntress fishing rod.

  • Effects: Faster swimming, underwater breathing, and you transform into a snake while swimming in Midnight zones.

  • While fishing with it (especially outside pools), it tracks venom points.

  • Turn venom in at a statue → Coiled Filament (1:1).

  • Coiled Filament is the main currency for the best rewards:

    • Mount (Sea Dwelling Isle Serpent / similar) — 2,500 Coiled Filament

    • Sword — 500

    • Polearm — 1,000

    • Mace — 500

    • Other cosmetics and items

N’Zoth Pet

At Rank 5 you can also get the Airy Bobble.

  • Use it with your fishing pole → spawns an N’Zoth-related fish.

  • Short questline: Kill/collect items and complete all 5 Curse Surges for body parts (eyes, tail, feathers, etc.).

  • Final reward: N’Zoth battle pet. It has the flavor text “waiting, watching, and learning.”

Vendor Stuff & What They Do

Key items and crafts (many available from Second Mate Sluggs or related vendors at Tokka’s Landing / Tokka’s Folly):

  • Airy Lure / Eerie Lure — 30-minute buff that increases chance for rarer/harder fish (including Pristine Polygon). Highly recommended.

  • Tokka’s Multi-Ward (crafted) — Water walking, reduced detection range, prevents Blood Hunters from attacking (useful outside Coiled Isle in some cases).

  • Textual Range Reduced — Shortens cast range (great inside the Vault of Aethel Tech so you don’t pull extra mobs).

  • Shredded Blueman / Shredded Glimmer — Very inefficient conversion (100:1 ratio, roughly 10 casts per item; 1,000 casts for one).

  • Venom Spice Cutlets — Costs 250 Beast Asteroids (or similar).

  • Totolan Sling Sack (tailoring) — Costs 50 of a related item.

  • Proudmoore Ship in a Bottle — Housing décor (craftable).

  • Mounted Moby — Décor (can be placed on wall or in water).

  • Opalescent Amani — Décor (not fully available at time of video).

  • Enchanted Formula and Enchanted Void Veil Fish — Moving aquarium-style décor (costs include 15 Bulbous Benthos + other materials).

  • Cold Stargazer Lure — Crafted with 5 starfish bait + Beast Asteroids / Bulbous Benthos / Pristine Polygon.

  • Perception helpers: Root Crab (+25), Flask o’ Near Fire (+45), certain teas (+50), Toxic Thalophyte (+25), Wiggle Worm (+20 for 10 min), etc.

  • Grand Line perception enchant on the rod → consistently 2 fish per cast (tested; caps at 2 even with very high perception). Stack perception buffs for best results (aim high, e.g. >140 for strong double-fish chance).

Navigator Utula (near Captain Tokka) sells toys that cost Pristine Polygon, including a Gold Starfish toy and a pin-to-friend/foe version.

Pristine Polygon Vendor & Related Materials

Pristine Polygon is one of the key rare fishing materials. Conversion chain (from venom fishing procs):

  • Beast Asteroids / Beached Asteroids (most common)

  • 25 Beast Asteroids → 1 Bulbous Benthos

  • 5 Bulbous Benthos → 1 Pristine Polygon

These are used for lures, crafts, décor, and vendor purchases.

BEST Farm for Pristine Polygon & Tips

Best method: Venom fishing in the outdoor venom waters around Atal’Utek / Coiled Isle after Rank 3. This is the highest-yield area for Beast Asteroids → Bulbous Benthos → Pristine Polygon, plus all the reputation/side-quest/Thalassian Bottle procs.

Additional tips from the video:

  • Always use the Eerie/Airy Lure when available.

  • Stack perception (enchant + consumables) for more double-fish procs.

  • Fish outside pools once unlocked — this is where the special materials and ghosts come from.

  • For Thalassian Recipe in a Bottle specifically: Reach Rank 3 + use Eerie Lure in the open venom waters. Bottles contain both 12.1 and earlier profession recipes.

  • Daily fish turn-ins create a reliable gold market.

  • Progress the ranks steadily via dailies + ghosts + weekly for the rod, mount, pet, and currency.
