The Voidforge Guide – Midnight Season 1 (Patch 12.0.5)

As Midnight Season 1 launches in patch 12.0.5, the Voidforge becomes the new warband-wide progression system. You’ll work with the domanaar Decimus to build this powerful device while learning about mysterious Voidcores. The system is designed to help you chase specific gear more reliably and upgrade your best pieces over time.

1. Overview & Warband-Wide Progression

  • The Voidforge is built once per warband (shared across all your characters).

  • Early in the season you help complete the initial construction.

  • Once it’s online, Decimus starts producing Nebulous Voidcores every week.

  • Later in the season you help craft the Ascendant Nilhammer (a new tool), unlocking Ascendant Voidcores and item upgrades.

Everything scales with your warband, so alts benefit automatically once the forge is built.

2. Nebulous Voidcores – Your Weekly Bonus Loot Engine

These are the main currency for targeted loot every week.

How to Get Nebulous Voidcores

Decimus sells them to you in exchange for a choice of:

  • Gold

  • Voidlight Marl

  • Veteran Dawncrests

Important weekly scaling The total number of Nebulous Voidcores you can buy on a single character increases by 2 every week for the rest of the season.

How to Use Them (Bonus Loot System)

After you finish any of these activities while carrying Nebulous Voidcores, you get a special “Bonus Loot” prompt:

  • Midnight Season 1 raid boss kill

  • Mythic+ dungeon completion

  • Bountiful Delve completion

  • Prey Hunt on Nightmare difficulty

You spend your Voidcores to receive one random item from that activity’s loot table that matches your current Loot Specialization.

Key rules

  • The item is permanently removed from that specific difficulty’s loot pool until you’ve collected every eligible piece.

    • Example: Getting the Ranger-Captain’s Iridescent Insignia on Normal difficulty does not remove it from Heroic or Mythic.

  • Raid bosses cost 2 Voidcores (smaller loot pools + higher power).

  • All other content costs 1 Voidcore.

  • Mythic+ item level = exactly what you would get from the Great Vault at that key level (Myth 1/6 starts at Keystone +10 and above).

Example Bonus Loot Prompts (as shown in the preview)

Raid example – Crown of the Cosmos (Voidspire) on Normal difficulty (Marksmanship Hunter): You see a window listing every possible Hunter item from that boss. Items you’ve already earned on that difficulty are grayed out. You spend 2 Nebulous Voidcores and get one random remaining piece.

Mythic+ example – Windrunner Spire (+10 or higher): Same style window, but only 1 Voidcore required. Again, already-earned items are removed from the pool for that key range.

Note from Blizzard Some items are missing from the examples because “not all loot is Hunter loot” — only pieces that can actually drop for your spec appear.

Strategic tip built into the system Because raids have fewer items but cost 2 cores, and Mythic+ has more items but costs 1 core, the expected number of Voidcores needed to target a specific trinket/ring/weapon ends up roughly the same regardless of source.

3. Ascendant Voidcores & the Ascendant Nilhammer

Once the Voidforge is fully built, Decimus asks your warband to help craft the Ascendant Nilhammer — a powerful new tool.

After you complete this short warband-wide journey:

  • You can now earn Ascendant Voidcores as rare drops from all Midnight Season 1 endgame content:

    • Raids

    • Mythic+ dungeons

    • Bountiful Delves

    • Nightmare Prey Hunts

What they do Consume an Ascendant Voidcore on an eligible item to permanently increase its item level and turn it into an Ascendant Voidforged piece.

Eligible items only

  • Fully upgraded Hero quality weapons/trinkets

  • Fully upgraded Myth quality weapons/trinkets

  • Maximum quality Radiance Crafted weapons/trinkets

(Preview images show the upgrade window with before/after item stats and the glowing Ascendant Voidforged label.)

Quick Start Checklist for Week 1

  1. Complete the initial Voidforge construction questline with Decimus.

  2. Buy as many Nebulous Voidcores as you can afford each week (remember the +2 cap increase every reset).

  3. Run your weekly raid, M+, Delves, or Prey Hunts while carrying them to start clearing loot pools.

  4. Keep an eye out for the Ascendant Nilhammer quest once the forge is online.

The Voidforge turns the usual “pray to RNG” endgame into a reliable chase system — perfect for main-character BiS hunting or quickly gearing alts. Start saving resources now so you’re ready when Season 1 drops!
