11.2 SUPER FAST GEARING ALTS - TWW Warcraft Ghost of Karesh
Why You Shouldn’t Bother Gearing Alts (or Even Your Main) Right Now in WoW 11.2
Massive Item Level Jump Between Seasons
Unprecedented Item Level Gap:
The jump in item level (ilvl) from Season 2 to Season 3 is enormous—about 45–46 ilvls. This is the largest increase ever seen between seasons (previously, the biggest was 39 ilvls, which was already considered huge). This means that even the lowest-tier gear in Season 3 is almost as good as, or better than, high-end gear from Season 2.
Explorer Gear is Now Extremely Strong
Explorer Gear Details:
Rank 1 Explorer Gear starts at ilvl 642.
Fully upgraded Explorer Gear reaches ilvl 665 (using Valor Stones).
For context, 665 is just 6 ilvls below a well-geared main (e.g., 671 ilvl).
This means your alts can reach near-main levels of power just by upgrading basic gear.
Easy Access to High Ilvl Gear for Alts
Storyline Rewards:
By simply completing the 11.2 Chapter 3 storyline in the first week, you get a full set of Explorer gear (shoulders, neck, ring, weapons, head, waist, legs, trinket, chest, hands, feet, wrists).
You’ll also earn about 5,600 Valor Stones just from the story chapters, enough to upgrade all that gear to 665 ilvl.
World Quests:
World quests offer Adventurer gear (even higher ilvl), and you can get 2–3 pieces per week just by doing them.
With the world quest reset mid-week, you can get another set of rewards, making it even easier to gear up.
Explorer Gear is BoE and Farmable
BoE (Bind on Equip):
Explorer gear drops as BoE, so you can buy it from the auction house or farm it from rares and other sources.
This means you can quickly assemble a full set of 665 ilvl gear for your alts at the start of a new season, with minimal effort or gold investment as prices drop.
Should You Keep Gearing Alts Now?
Not Worth the Effort:
Since you can get near-max ilvl gear for your alts (or even your main) almost instantly at the start of Season 3, there’s little point in grinding out gear right now.
Any effort spent gearing up now will be quickly outclassed by the new baseline gear in the next season.
Summary
Don’t waste time gearing your alts (or even your main) right now.
The ilvl jump in Season 3 is so big that even the most basic gear will be nearly as good as your current best. Just wait for the new season, do the storyline, grab your Explorer gear, upgrade it with Valor Stones, and you’ll be set. Farming or buying BoE Explorer gear will also be trivial and cheap. So, unless you need gear for immediate content, it’s best to hold off and save your effort for the new season’s launch!
